Lori Lawrence’s Statement

Fabric and design have been a part of my life for decades and provide a means of artistic expression.  Thousands of hours of experimentation and the creation of garments, dance costumes, and stage attire have been an education in visual and fibre art.  Color, texture and sound work together in those pieces.  Meandering and tangling those threads add sparkling moments to life.   

The current collection of design was arranged around the theme, “Untied”.  Through the incorporation of ties within design, the garments have gained colour and unique features.  In the past, ties have been worn by males in powerful positions, and females have worn them along with suits to fit into that “world”.  Untying, dismantling, and using the tie shifts power into someone else’s fingers.  The silk once again becomes fabric to be used in designs.
